We are looking for an experienced Sr. Software Engineer with strong operational skills in an Unix environment to join our diverse and multi-functional R&D team.



As a member of an agile Geocoder Development Team you will work closely with Data Analysts, Requirements Engineers, Testers, DevOps and Release Engineers.



Under limited supervision you will be implementing, maintaining and improving key search components. With your technical Java expertise, you will identify weaknesses and potentials in our current implementation and apply advanced concepts. With your operational Unix knowledge, you will be setting up and running our development infrastructure in China.

Your responsibilities

- Design, implement, test, document and review Geocoder components

o be part of a scrum team with focus on responsibility, efficiency and quality

o discuss architectural and design decisions with the team

o conduct functional and performance analysis of implemented features in close collaboration with Data Analysis and Testing team 

o leverage your native Chinese language knowledge

o apply clean code standards, test driven approaches and consider static code analysis for software development

- implement, maintain and run a CI/CD environment in close collaboration with the Geocoder team and Operations by using your excellent working experience with Unix systems and related tooling



Your experience and qualifications 

- Good working expertise in software engineering with Java and/or Scala (7+ years)

o Expertise in back end services, concurrency, efficiency, multi-threading and memory management

o Excellent analytical and algorithmic skills, effective knowledge of design patterns

o Strive for high quality results 

o Paid attention to solid software craftsmanship, a sincere motivation for keeping things simple and a passion for coding Strong ability to conquer new skills in a self-reliant manner

o Profound understanding of translating algorithms into code is a requirement, e.g. hands-on experience with graph algorithms, search algorithms, etc.

o Good working knowledge in one modern configuration management system, preferably git or mercurial

- excellent working knowledge on UNIX operating systems, GNU and related tooling

- Native Chinese speaker and proficient oral and written English language skills

 

Qualification in one or more of the following fields of expertise will be a bonus

Technology 

- Knowledge about and/or working experience with Search Engine Technologies, such as Lucene, Solr, …

- knowledge about location based services such as mapping, navigation and GPS



Big data analytics

- Profound understanding of big data analytics and proven success in solving analytical problems using quantitative approaches

- experience with machine learning solutions and pattern recognition techniques

- hands on experience with Hadoop, Spark, MapReduce, Hive, R, Matlab or any other related tooling

- a strong passion for empirical research

- ability to communicate complex quantitative analysis in a clear, precise, and actionable manner



Versatility

- Experienced in the overall software engineering process, i.e. analysis, design, implementation, test and documentation



Languages

- Knowledge in a scripting language like Ruby, Python, Perl and diverse Unix scripting



Testing

- Interest and experience in performance aspects, related tooling and methodologies

- experience in Test-Driven Development (TDD), Acceptance Test Driven Development (ATDD) or Behavior Driven Development (BDD)

- experienced in working with continuous integration tools like Jenkins, Continuum, Bamboo, Thought Works Go, etc.

- experienced with testing tools like Cucumber, SoapUI, Jmeter, etc.



Operations

- Hands-on working experience with automation and testing in Unix environments
