(Senior) Staff Nurse - ICU

Job Summary:

The Senior Staff Nurse is responsible for assisting the senior or nurse specialist/ Nurse Manager in the general management and co-ordination of patient.

Supports the senior or nurse specialist/ Nurse Manager in ensuring a safe environment and the provision of a high standard of nursing care to patients in accordance with professional and organisational policies.

Involves in orientation, teaching and supervising new/ junior nursing staff working towards an effective and knowledgeable nursing team.

Duties & Responsibilities:

1.Professional/ Clinical

·Plans, provides and evaluates patient care.

·Supports and advises nursing colleagues in the practice of patient centered care.

·Reviews and revises care plan to fit the individual patient based on continuing assessment. Ensures accurate and concise documentation.

·Facilitates communication between different disciplines in order to review and evaluate the effectiveness of the holistic care delivered to the patient.

·Evaluates the patient’s/ significant others’ level of health knowledge in preparation for patient’s discharge and to conduct teaching sessions where required.

·Ensures own professional growth.

·Regularly update nursing knowledge and skills through attendance of in-service courses and clinical updates.

2.Infection Control

·Participate as Infection Control Liaison Officer.

·To keep up with current infection control principles and policies.

·Ensures that the hospital’s infection control policies are adhered to.

·Keeps colleagues aware of current hospital infection control policies.

3.ICU Management

·Coordinates care in time of emergencies (Code Blue)

·Observes hospital and legal requirements in nursing practices.

·Participate in ICU meeting and work towards being an effective team members.

·Assist in maintaining patients’ statistics/administrative records by keeping them updated.

·Assists in staff performance reviews as required by Nurse Manager/Nursing Officer.

·Participates in meetings and undertake tasks as and when assigned.

Qualifications:

·China/Shang Hai Registered Nurse

·Diploma or Degree in Health Sciences (Nursing)

·Valid BCLS & ACLS Certificates preferred

·At least 5 years of current practice as a staff Nurse in an acute hospital

·Strong medical, cardiac and surgical knowledge

·Working knowledge of hospital policies, infection control, evidence-based nursing practice and nursing research

·Well developed clinical/ assessment skills appropriate to ER

·Able to teach and impart knowledge to juniors.

·Able to provide health teaching, good work organisation, good communication, team member skills.

·Good knowledge of clinical practices, care requirements - as per clinical work area/ hospital requirements.

·Infection control principle, practices.

·Proficient in Code Blue Procedures

·Effective communication, PR, interpersonal relation skills.

·Knowledge of staff recruitment, allocation, appraisal.

·Proficient in emergency action Procedures

·Self-directed, analytical and proactive.

·Effective in time management, problem solving, decision making, resource allocation/review.

·Adaptable, flexible, able to work effectively under pressure.

·IT knowledge in Words, Excel and PowerPoint
